A well known Musician and Pastor Mlaka Maliro has promised fundraising shows for the newly licensed Balaka Community Radio to be fully equipped and start its operation in the district.
Mlaka made the remarks on Thursday when he was approached by some members of the radio station at his residence in Balaka.
The veteran musician who also accepted the role of the radio's board member expressed gratitude for the recognition.
He said: "I'm so grateful that you decided to visit me and I thank you for selecting me to be a board member of our community radio. This is great news for me and my family and I believe God has put me through this development.
"I'm ready to use my music skills to help raise the money that is needed for the radio to soon hit the airwaves."
Pastor Maliro further revealed that he will soon be organizing a music concert that will accommodate a variety of artists and that the proceeds will be channeled to the establishment of the radio.
The veteran musician also called upon well-wishers to support the community radio saying it is a medium of the people, by the people and for the people and will thus play a significant role in developing the district and giving voice to the voiceless.
"Again, I believe this radio will help in ending child marriages and Gender-Based Violence (GBV) against women and girls in the district," he said.
Board member responsible for administration, Mr. Goodson Chidawati commended Pastor Mlaka Maliro for his commitment towards the radio project.
On his part, Director of Events and Fundraising at the radio, Said Billiat said arrangements of shows under Pastor Mlaka Maliro will start as soon as possible.
Balaka Community Radio is expected to hit the airwaves soon.
