Balaka District Hospital has hailed fourth round polio vaccination campaign after scooping 99 percent in the district.
Speaking in an interview with Balaka Community Radio, Public Relations Officer for Balaka District Hospital Mercy Nyirenda said 95,376 children received polio vaccine between 13th to 16th October out of 96,166 children they were targeting.Balaka District Hospital
Nyirenda said the development was due to collaborative work among all concerned stakeholders which enabled them to disseminate information on the essence of polio vaccination campaign."Our 17 facilities in Balaka managed to reach their target to over 100%, only that Mwima area and Balaka urban scored 90% and 94% respectively.Religious beliefs was one of reasons for poor performance of these areas" Nyirenda said.
She further urged citizens in the district to rush to hospital when their children develop signs of polio.
On his part Chairperson for Balaka District Council,Pharaoh Kambiri commended the hospital for well done job saying this will enhance development of the district.
Kambiri says it is the wish of the council to see citizens of Balaka receiving every forthcoming vaccination as to become progressive in development.
